Carrie Underwood’s High-Protein Diet Tips: Egg-White Scramble, Ezekiel Toast, and More to Stay in Shape
Underwood, the creator of the nutrition and fitness app fit52, maintains a close watch on her well-being. The mom of two (who shares sons Isaiah, 2, and Jacob, 5, with her husband Mike Fisher) monitors her macronutrient intake—protein, carbohydrates, and fats—to ensure she stays energized. The "Before He Cheats" hitmaker also shared with the publication that her ideal balance consists of 45 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent fats, and 25 percent protein.
The "Two Black Cadillacs" artist also discussed her collaboration with the sports drink company BODYARMOR, mentioning that she always keeps their FLASH I.V. Electrolyte Sticks in her bag to mix with water for a quick refreshment on the move. "One thing that I feel is so neglected in our lives is staying hydrated," she explained.
The "Cowboy Casanova" songstress continued: "It seems so simple," she says. "If you find yourself cranky... you need to drink more water! My husband will complain about a headache sometimes and I'm like, you need to drink more water." Underwood revealed that her usual morning meal consists of a tofu or egg-white scramble, Ezekiel toast, berries, and coffee. Additionally, she ensures she always has water or a BODYARMOR drink on hand to maintain hydration before and after her exercise routine.
Underwood noted that she tries to exercise every day. For lunch, the future American Idol judge opts for a vegan sandwich filled with an assortment of vegetables. Her version features nutritious components such as Tofurky, tomato, avocado, red onion, spinach, and mustard. She explained that she grows "as much of my own food as possible," so that her sandwiches have fresh ingredients without preservatives or additives.
When it comes to snacks, Underwood often selects protein bars or green smoothies. "If you have healthy snacks in your house, then you're going to eat healthy snacks," she advised. Underwood went on: "So just keeping those things around you, you're going to be more apt to utilize those things." For dinner, the country music superstar typically enjoys a tofu stir-fry or roasted vegetables with a serving of vegan chicken.
While on tour, she eats pre-packaged foods, such as vegetarian burritos, instead of take-out meals. As she told the magazine: "I carry my own food with me everywhere. I'm always going to the grocery store, just so I'm prepared." Despite occasionally enjoying a piece of dark chocolate, Underwood admits that she isn't particularly fond of sweets. "I do have my vice, and it’s red wine," she said, adding: "It’s good for my heart, right?!"
Inside Carrie Underwood's Intense Leg Workout Regimen
In an interview with Shape, Underwood's longtime personal trainer, Eve Overland, revealed the secrets behind the workout regimen she relies on to develop toned and powerful legs. "Each workout incorporates both upper-body as well as lower-body exercises," Overland said.
The trainer added: "Most commonly, we will work with opposing muscle groups, so she gets a lot of frequency with lower-body exercises without overworking it on any given day. This approach has contributed to her amazing strength as well as sculpted physique."
Overland went on: "[Underwood] likes to stick with the basics because they work." She noted that the "Hate My Heart" crooner opts for "Lateral band walks, leg press machine [reps], hamstring curls, and cable straight leg kickbacks." These are some of her go-tos "because of the great pump they give you."
