It’s true that too much eye makeup can prematurely age you, but with skilled application, the right eye makeup can take years off your face instantly.
For the ideal youthful glow, celebrity makeup artists say that concealer is the most important aspect of your makeup routine to perfect. Specifically, you should focus on finding a good under-eye concealer to reduce the appearance of dark circles.
Luckily, they were willing to share their favorite concealer tips with us! Keep reading for all the details.
Robert Sesnek, celebrity makeup artist with clients like Hailey Baldwin, Kendall Jenner, and Lucy Hale, emphasizes the importance of a good concealer.
He explains, "I like to take a little concealer (like CATRICE Cosmetics Liquid Camouflage Concealer) and lightly go around the bottom of the tear ducts to really brighten and lighten that area."
"It adds a halo effect to the eyes and will make them appear larger," he adds.
It's also important to adjust your method to accommodate your specific skincare concerns.
For more full coverage, Sesnek suggests using a "concealer brush in smaller layers and tap in in until you get the coverage you desire." This can especially be useful for covering veins and broken capillaries.
Sébastien Tardif, founder of Veil Cosmetics and makeup artist to stars like Tyra Banks and Olivia Palermo, prefers a liquid concealer: "I always apply a self-setting liquid concealer only where I see darkness or redness which is usually the inner corner of the eyes and tap it into place sheerly, repeating once or twice depending on how much neutralizing is needed."
It's important not to go overboard, however. Tardif adds, "By not overindulging with a heavy concealer, the end result is a fresh bright eye as opposed to a made-up look."
If your makeup starts to look cakey, it will also start aging you.
To add some extra life to your eyes, Tardif also suggests putting "a small dab of soft creamy opalescent primer or tint right on the brow bone and mid eyelid."
Taking the time to groom your eyebrows can also help you look younger. "First, groom the eyebrows in an upward motion with clear brow gel or tinted brow gel if your brows are sparse. It's like a mini brow lift!" Tardif says.
