Your morning routine plays a huge role in your weight loss results, so you want to make sure that you’re eating the right foods to help get your metabolism off on the right foot. “A healthy, metabolism-boosting breakfast should consist of a lean protein, fiber and plenty of vitamins and nutrients,” says Regina Fazzini, a New York-based nutritionist, tells SheFinds. “The protein and fiber are important to keep you feeling full and focused, and they also help to get your body burning calories faster.”

Not sure which foods you should be eating in the morning to speed up your metabolism and your weight loss? We took a cue from our favorite celebrities to see which foods they rely on to get their metabolism revved to burn calories. From Gwyneth Paltrow to Kourtney Kardashian, here are the foods celebrities swear by to boost their metabolism in the morning:

The 100+ Best New Beauty Launches Of 2024
meghan markle and oatmeal with blueberries and almonds

Meghan Markle

The royal-to-be loves to have a nutritious bowl of oatmeal in the morning. She usually pairs her oats with bananas to keep her energy levels steady throughout the day, especially when she’s going to be busy on set shooting Suits.

If you want to try Markle’s favorite breakfast, try it with steel cut oats to add more protein and fiber. Dr. Andrew Weil, MD, recommends opting for steel cut oats because they’re a low gylcemnic food, meaning that they won’t cause your blood sugar to spike or make you feel hungry before lunchtime. “It takes longer for digestive enzymes to reach the starch inside the thicker pieces, slowing down their conversion to sugar,” he explains.

Gwyneth Paltrow

The actress’ diet consists of low-carb, gluten-free and dairy-free meals. When she asked Dr. Frank Lipman what an ideal, healthy breakfast looked like for her second cookbook It's All Good, he suggested veggie omelets and smoked wild salmon with sardines and avocado on gluten-free bread. While we can’t be sure that this is exactly what Paltrow eats in the A.M., we’re sure it’s not that far off. After all, it is low-carb and free of gluten and dairy!

kourtney kardashian with melted ghee

Kourtney Kardashian

The mom of three has a morning routine that she’s been following for years, and it entails drinking melted ghee before eating her breakfast. “Ghee is the first thing I put in my body every morning,” she explains on her website. “After I take it, I don't eat anything for 20 minutes, and then I drink a glass of water before eating food. In my kitchen, I only cook with ghee and coconut oil and try to incorporate it into my meals as much as possible.”

She swears by the clarified butter because it’s “believed to be healing to both mind and body” and it’s “rich in oil-soluble vitamins A,D,E and K, as well as K2 and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) antioxidants” that assist with fat burning and weight loss, she says.

The former E! News host starts off her day with a Greek yogurt and blueberries. “A bowl of Greek yogurt can keep you fortified with essential nutrients and even help you lose weight,” says Alissa Rumsey, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, who notes that it’s also loaded with protein, which helps with cell growth, building muscle and repairing tissue, and probiotics, which work to keep a healthy balance of good bacteria in the body and aid with digestion.

miranda kerr with grapefruit slices in a bowl

Miranda Kerr

For supermodel Miranda Kerr, her mornings consist of exercise and grapefruits! "One of the first things I like to do in the morning is having a grapefruit,” she says. Kerr, who is pregnant with her second child, also loves grapefruits because its powerful citrus scent helps with her morning sickness.

Grapefruit also makes for an excellent metabolism-boosting and fat-burning fruit because it contains naringenin, an antioxidant that helps your body use insulin more efficiently and keep your blood sugar in check. This then helps your body burn calories faster and more efficiently!

victoria beckham with salmon on a plate

The fashion designer enjoys salmon in the morning because of how nutritious it is—in fact, she eats it at every day! Salmon is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which play a big role in your metabolic functions and weight loss because they’re considered a “good fat.”

Not only does Beckham swear by the lean protein for her metabolism, but she says it has improved her skin, too! Dr. Harold Lancer, a Los Angeles-based dermatologist, told her to eat salmon to help improve her “problematic skin.”

“He said to me, ‘You have to eat salmon every single day,’” she recalled. “I said, ‘Really, every day?’ And he said, ‘Yes; breakfast, lunch or dinner, you have to eat it every single day.'"
