One of the biggest (and sexiest) sartorial trends of 2021 undoubtedly has to be wearing bras and bralettes as tops. We couldn’t be on Instagram for more than a few minutes without seeing yet another celeb post a racy picture of themselves sporting the ab-baring trend. And as the Spring 2022 catwalks were full of models strutting their stuff in bralettes and very little else, we know that this is only the beginning, and we can expect to see this trend for many more months if not years to come!
But bralettes weren’t just reserved for social media, as celebs bravely stepped out on red carpets, on stage, and were even papped as they were going about their daily business in the tightest and most revealing bralettes in existence. Jennifer Lopez
Jewels and bralettes seemed to go together like peanut butter and jelly this year – and J-Lo was one of many A-listers to combine the two! The 52-year-old “On My Way” singer wore her jewel encrusted bralette as part of an entirely top to toe embellished outfit for the Dolce and Gabbana Alta Moda show in Venice back in August, and we were completely blown away!

We knew that Zendaya would pull out all the stops when attending the CFDA Awards in November – especially because she made history by being the youngest recipient of the Fashion Icon award. The 25-year-old Euphoria actress proved why she was deserving of the prestigious award by walking the red carpet in one of the biggest trends of the year, and she looked completely fierce, fearless and fabulous in her red Vera Wang bandeau bra!

Another crystal encrusted bra look courtesy of the 35-year-old former Victoria’s Secret Angel! Irina made our jaws drop when she posted a picture of herself flaunting her curves on the cover of the latest issue of HIGHStyle on Instagram last month, wearing some metallic barely-there hotpants and an utterly miniscule embellished bra as a top. Wow!

Yet another brunette beauty showing off her enviable figure in a dazzling bralette – and we certainly aren’t complaining! The 39-year-old star’s jewel-encrusted outfit which she wore to celebrate Diwali was the definition of show-stopping, and we’re so glad that she took the time to share some pictures with her fans on Instagram. Mrs Jonas proved how you can wear the ab-baring trend in a classy and glamorous way; just look at her!

We can’t possibly do a roundup of celebs who have rocked bralettes as tops this year without mentioning the 28-year-old “Thank U, Next” singer, as we think she has worn more bralettes than anyone! And boy, has she owned each and every one! There were so many chic and sexy bralettes that Ari has wowed us with this year, but the lavender bralette top which came complete with beaded tassels along the hem and sleeves that she wore on The Voice back in October was definitely one of our favorites. Even if we were green with envy every time we looked at her super-sculpted abs!

Shirts and blouses are so last season – at least if you ask Dua Lipa and Kristen Stewart, because both of these ladies proved that the only thing to wear underneath a blazer or with a pantsuit is a bra. The “Break My Heart” singer has rocked the bra and blazer trend on more than one occasion this year, but the leather bra she wore with a longline pinstripe blazer and low-rise black pants is our clear winner! With the super-risqué outfit and the smoldering pose, we’re not at all surprised to find out that Dua’s Instagram post featuring this look has received over 3 million likes and over 10,000 comments!

Akin to the 26-year-old multi-Grammy-Award-winning singer, K-Stew was also a big fan of the bralette-instead-of-shirt trend, as the 31-year-old Happiest Season actress looked extremely chic and effortlessly sexy at the Screen Actors Guild Q&A in her Zeynep Arçay bralette which she teamed with a red blazer and matching high-waisted pants. This menswear inspired look proves that there are actually so many ways to wear a bralette, so we’re excited to see how it develops in the new year!
