Dieting can be tricky. We can never be certain we’re getting enough nutrients–especially if we want to lose weight healthily. And, we know that dieting has an impact on hair, skin, and nails. By eating the right foods you could get thicker hair, stronger nails, and glowing skin. According to dermatologists, lean meats, eggs, vegetables, and grains are the best foods to add to your everyday diet.

We spoke with a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Anna Chacon about foods to eat for healthier hair, skin, and nails. She said lean meats, eggs, vegetables, and grains are all nutrient-rich and full of vitamins your body needs to grow. Find out more below!

Healthier hair

For flawless, strong hair, there are numerous nutrient-rich foods experts recommend adding to your everyday diet. Whether you’re experiencing hair loss or just want to promote shinier, thicker locks through a healthier diet over 50, we’ve got you covered.

"Eggs, lean meats (like chicken and fish), and soy products are all healthy sources. Every day, consume one serving. A daily multivitamin is a smart idea because trace elements like iron, magnesium, zinc, and biotin have an impact on hair as well," Dr. Chacon says. Nice!

And, if you're still suffering from thinning hair, try these hacks to cover up gaps in your hairline--stylist recommended.

Glowing skin

Aging is an absolutely natural part of life. Your skin will go through a number of changes as you age, and it is something that you can grow to accept and love. But you may also be searching for ways to look your best no matter your age. Having healthy, glowing skin is always going to make you look (and feel) fantastic!

Dr. Chacon says, "Ensure that you consume a lot of fruits, veggies, entire grains, and lean proteins. It's unclear if food affects acne, but a diet high in fish oil or fish oil supplements and low in harmful fats and refined or processed carbs may encourage younger-looking skin." Fish-oil supplements are highly recommended by dermatologists and makeup artists because they reduce and prevent wrinkles!

Stronger nails

Are your fingernails strong and healthy looking? If you see ridges, dents, or areas of unusual color or shape, they probably aren't. Many less-than-desirable nail conditions can be avoided through proper fingernail care and a change in diet. Dr. Charcon mentions certain foods that can help strengthen your nails:

“Meat and eggs. Because nails are comprised of the protein keratin, a diet high in protein, such as red meat, can aid in the growth, healing, and maintenance of healthy nails,” she notes. And, you can even try a milk bath manicure.

So, next time you wake up unsure of what to eat to get healthier hair, skin, and nails, take Chacon’s advice and opt for some lean meats, eggs, vegetables, grains, or all four. Your body will thank you!
