Keeping your iPhone’s battery running well is a top concern for Apple users, and for good reason — not only is your iPhone a pricey investment, but fixing anything that “breaks” can cost a lot of money, too.

“I can understand why we need to talk about having a better and longer-lasting battery life because if you don’t have Apple Care, replacing the battery on an iPhone can cost up to $69,” says Tech Expert Shiven Garg, Founder of Softbay. “For this, I believe that battery life optimization can be done through both some software as well as lifestyle hacks.”

Experts in the know, like Garg, regularly take advantage of simple hacks that can make a big difference in the state of your iPhone battery. This is the charging hack every Apple store employee loves because it makes your iPhone run like brand new.

Enable Optimized Battery Charging

Garg calls enabling the Optimized Battery Charging option a critical step in your efforts to improve your battery power. “This feature allows your iPhone to learn your charging schedule so if you leave your phone to charge overnight, it can charge to 80% and then continue charging (past 80%) when you wake up to reduce battery aging,” Garg says.

Turn Down Your Brightness Setting

The brightness setting on your phone can be the root cause of so much of your battery and charging issues. One tip that experts will always recommend to help your phone charge more efficiently — and to keep your phone charged for longer — is to turn your brightness as far down as you can tolerate. Simply go to Settings > Display & Brightness and toggle the brightness setting down. You can also adjust “night shift” to the hours you choose and this will lower the brightness during those times.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

More of a rule instead of a hack, the second equally important thing to remember when it comes to sustaining your iPhone battery is to avoid high temperatures at all costs because extreme temps can cause critical battery damage. “Though the usage of the iPhone depends on the user, a hack to reduce temperature increase during charging can be to remove bulky cases when charging,” Garg says. “It would also be great if you can keep the iPhone on a cool pad as it will help with temperature regulation and keep your battery healthy for a longer period of time.”

Finally, a lifestyle change Garg recommends is to reduce the number of charging cycles that your iPhone goes through. “That means don't charge your iPhone multiple times during the day,” Garg says. “It would be best if you connect your charger to your phone once or twice daily, not 20 or 30 times. It is a very simple concept, the fewer times you charge your phone, the less battery degradation will occur.”
