As long as you have to charge your iPhone each day, you might as well do it in a way that keeps your phone’s battery in good, working condition so that your phone stands the test of time. This means: being mindful of the charging accessories that you use, making sure you aren’t over or under-charging your phone, and even being aware of the environment in which you choose to charge your phone. All of these elements can be important when your goal is to charge your phone with respect to your device.

Mistakes can and often happen, but the good news is that they are simple to correct. These are some of the unexpected charging mistakes that can damage your iPhone.

Using Cheap Chargers & Accessories

Cheap chargers and other iPhone accessories are aplenty — but getting them for a steal isn’t always the best way to go. If you’re using a super-cheap charger that isn’t designed for your phone or its charging speed and capabilities, you can actually cause damage to your phone’s battery. You should always use Apple chargers or Apple-certified chargers, which you may be able to score for a more affordable price, but are created to handle your specific phone and its charging needs.

Charging Your Phone To 100% All The Time

Your iPhone doesn’t need to be charged to 100 percent, and doing so is not great for your battery. The iPhone operates best when it’s between 30 and 80 percent charged. Allowing it to fall lower than 10 percent is a no-no, but so it continually charging it to 100 percent.

Charging Your Phone In Extreme Temperatures

Whether you’re charging your phone in a cold car or a hot room, extreme temperatures are a no-no when it comes to your iPhone and charging. Your phone’s battery does not do well in extreme heat or cold. It can negatively affect the battery and possibly destroy it. Keep your phone at room temperature or close to it, especially when charging your device.

Using Your iPhone While Charging It

We get how difficult it is to put the pause on using your phone when you rely on it for so much. But if you are using your phone while you’re charging it, it can cause the device to generate heat. And, as already mentioned, extreme heat and your device are not a good match — that heat can destroy your battery. Try to be patient and keep your hands off your device while it’s charging.
