No one could recognize Charlize Theron when photos surfaced of her with red hair. The 45-year-old actress has been known to change up her hairstyle every so often, but we are so used to seeing her with her signature blonde locks that the red hair came as a huge shock.
As many of Theron’s hair changes often are, this new look is for a role in an upcoming movie. She is working on a movie for Netflix, called The School for Good and Evil.
Theron gave us a first look at how she appears as a redhead on Instagram this week. She posed with a handheld mirror obscuring most of her face, so all we could see was voluminous red hair and the top of her head.
Though we didn’t get too much of a glimpse, we can already tell that Theron looks gorgeous as a redhead.
“Ain’t no rest for the EVIL,” Theron captioned her post. “Can’t wait for you all to meet Lady Lesso.”
The School for Good and Evil is based on a book of the same title by Soman Chainani. It tells the story of a school where children are trained to become fairy tale-like heroes or villains. Theron’s role, Lady Lesso, is the dean of the school.
Theron stars alongside Kerry Washington, Michelle Yeoh and Laurence Fishburne in the movie, which is expected to release in 2022.
This isn’t the first time Charlize Theron has changed her look for a role. In fact, the actress has been known to even go through dramatic transformations to prepare for a new movie. She was completely unrecognizable in the 2003 movie Monster - a role that won Theron the Oscar for best actress.
Some of her less dramatic beauty transformations have included going brunette for both 2000’s The Yards and 2004’s Aeon Flux and a buzz cut for Mad Max Fury Road in 2015.
If you’re thinking of changing up your hairstyle, you may want to consider taking inspiration from Theron and go red. She’s not the only celebrity who has pulled off the look flawlessly.
In the past, celebs including Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, Scarlett Johansson and Katy Perry have all tried out red hair.
