There is rarely a time in history when the bob haircut, in some form, hasn’t been a popular choice. The bob is a true classic — an example of a haircut that works on so many different women, regardless of their face shape, hair type, or age. It is one of the most highly recommended cuts if you’re experiencing thinning as it can automatically make ends look thicker and create movement in your hair. And it manages to bring polish, sophisticated, and playfulness to your look, depending on how you customize it.
With that said, all bobs are not created equal. Each season you’ll see a slightly variation on the bob that brings it to modern times and makes it look fresh. This winter, the five bobs on everyone’s minds are universally flattering, but have slight differences that make them unique. Here are five chic, classic bob haircuts you’re about to see everywhere.
1. 90’s Bob
Hailey Bieber has become synonymous with the ‘90s bob, which is cut at the chin or a little bit longer and features light, blended-in layers (nothing is too obvious) with a little flick at the end for maximum playfulness. This is also known as the “Supermodel bob” and it gives your hair major volume and adds tons of attitude to your look.
2. A-Line Bob
If you prefer a haircut with lots of structure, the A-line bob delivers. This cut is shorter in the back, with a longer front, and often features sharp layers. This cut can actually be customized further — you can make the ends blunt, add texture or curls, or keep the ends super-sharp.
3. French Bob
Sydney Sweeney stunned when she arrived on the red carpet recently with a French bob. Considered one of the more daring bobs, this style is usually shorter than the chin and features lots of texture. It is usually combined with bangs, as well, though Sweeney shows that it looks just as stylish without them.
4. Italian Bob
Traveling south of France we find another stylish bob that has been all the rage these past few seasons: the Italian bob. Aubrey Plaza rocks a gorgeous version of this cut and shows off its finest characteristics: this bob is slightly longer and contains a lot of volume. It has fluid layers throughout, can be lightly waved, and the roots are lifted, giving an overall voluminous look.
5. Sleek Lob
If you love the shape of a bob, but want to retain more length, try a sleek lob. The lob ends at around the collarbone and can be cut with blunt ends that make thin or fine hair look fuller. This season’s favorite lob is sleeker, with an emphasis on shine and healthy-looking locks.
6. Stacked Bob
A stacked bob is similar to the A-line bob in shape, with a shorter back and longer front. But this haircut features shorter, more angled layers that can create volume and texture. This is a great bob to pair with bangs, but be aware that it will require more frequent trips to the stylist to maintain its unique shape.
