Wintertime is the perfect time to try out a brand new haircut. Maybe you’re leaving the house a little less often than usual, so when you do, it feels special — and you want a special new look to go along with your event. Or perhaps you’re just tired of the same summertime/autumn haircut and color you’ve been sporting and are in the mood for a little change.

We’ve got eight of the hottest haircuts you’re about to see everywhere this winter. These styles run the gamut from short to medium and somewhere in between. They’re all chic, trendy, but also universally flattering. Here are eight great ones to consider.

1. ‘90s Medium Cut With Bangs

The nineties have been back for some time now, and they continue to rule in haircuts. A ‘90s medium cut reaches about shoulder length and features tons of long layers and infinite amounts of volume (so invest in a great hair dryer, root spray, and round brush). Adding bangs provides that little dash of oomph that turns up any style, plus fringe is super youthful if you want to soften your look.

2. Layered Bob

Bobs are so hot right now, and the best part: they boast a universally flattering chin-length style that lifts the face and can make your hair look thicker and healthier. The layered bob features multiple layers that give a bob extra volume and movement.

3. Soft Pixie

The super-short pixie is defined by shorter length at the back and shorn sides with more length at the crown. You can create a soft pixie by keeping those top layers longer and even slightly wavy. The effect is romantic, but also mindful of the needs of thinning hair, which looks thicker with a little less length to it.

4. Asymmetrical Bob

Since we’re all infatuated with bobs this season, here’s one more to consider: an asymmetrical bob with a shorter back and longer front. You can also opt for a bob that is shorter on one side and longer on the other — one added bonus of this bob style is that can add the illusion of symmetry in the face.

5. Asymmetrical Pixie

Those of us with pixie haircuts can also get on board the asymmetrical bandwagon with an asymmetrical pixie haircut seen here on Halle Berry. This pixie features one side that’s shorter, or even shaved, and much longer length on the other side for a funky and fun contrast.

6. Jane Fonda’s Short Haircut

Jane Fonda always looks on point — her fabulous bixie haircut has a lot to do with it. The bixie is a combination of the pixie and bob, with less length than the bob but longer pieces all around than the pixie. This shape allows you to style it softly around the face and the effect is elegant.

7. Medium Shag

If lots of layers is your favorite look, consider a medium haircut that reaches just above the shoulders with a shag shape featuring tons of movement. The shag is great for adding volume and texture to your hair, but be mindful of how much weight you take off of thinning hair — sometimes fewer layers are better.

lob

8. Lob

Right up there winning popularity contests left and right alongside the bob and shag you’ll find the lob — a collarbone-length haircut that usually features blunt ends and light layering on top. The lob is perfect for thinning hair, giving it an automatic life, and it’s just long enough to still be a style you can pull into an updo or ponytail.
