The days of Chick-fil-A-free Sundays may soon become a thing of the past in New York. A new bill could require the beloved chicken fast food chain to open on Sundays in certain areas. And while this may sound like good news to some Chick-fil-A fans, others are not happy. Learn more about the bill and find out why some customers are upset about it below.

New bill could require Chick-fil-A to remain open on Sundays

Chick-fil-A is known for a few things: delicious chicken, extra-kind employees, and the fact that the restaurant is closed on Sundays. However, a new bill that was introduced in New York earlier this month might change that, as it proposes requiring locations at rest stops along Interstate 90 to stay open all week.

If passed, Bill A08336 would necessitate the operation of food services at transportation facilities and rest areas Monday through Sunday. In addition to seven Chick-fil-A locations at Thruway rest stops across New York, the bill would pertain to food services at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

According to NBC New York, "The bill wouldn't immediately apply to restaurants currently operation—meaning the impact on existing Chick-fil-A locations would be limited—but would affect all future contracts for food concessions at transportation facilities."

Chick-fil-A locations across the nation have been closed every Sunday since the company was founded in 1946. Since Chick-fil-A is a Christian establishment, the intention is that their employees are able to use Sundays for rest and worship.

Some might love the idea that they'll finally be able to enjoy their beloved chicken nuggets any day of the week, but others have an issue with the bill.

"Just leave them alone," one person posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). "My opinion is that all businesses should be closed on Sunday. It's disgusting how greedy politicians and corporations are just draining the life of its workers. This is just greed. I hope Chick-fil-A don't give in."

"Unconstitutional," another wrote.

What do you think? Is a fried chicken sandwich on a Sunday worth it—or do should workers be entitled to a day of rest?

(In the meantime, you can pick up these copycat Chick-fil-A nuggets at Costco. You're welcome.)
