Chick-fil-A has postponed their famous Cow Appreciation Day, an annual event where the fast food chain offers free food to customers willing to dress up as cows. Last year, the event was held on July 9, but the event has been cancelled this year due to Covid safety concerns.

Chick-fil-A has not yet opened their dining rooms (despite other fast food chains doing so). According to Delish, “Although some restaurants are opening up dining rooms under strict new guidelines for social distancing and minimized person-to-person contact, Chick-fil-A is not opening its dining rooms just yet. You can still order for curbside pickup or at the drive-thru window in the meantime.”

Keep reading for the details.

In a statement to USA Today, Chick-fil-A explained the decision: "2020 has been a challenging year, and for the time being, we have decided to postpone the annual holiday in honor of our beloved bovines."

The fast food chain made the decision to cancel Cow Appreciation Day (which has been a tradition since 2005) in light of the threat of Covid-19.

The Cow Appreciation Day website explains, "We made this decision with the communities we serve in mind, keeping Safe Service as our highest priority at this time. Until we can gather again in person and celebrate our Cows, we have created a few fun ways to keep the spirit of Cow Appreciation Day alive this summer."

If you're wondering what Safe Service means, Chick-fil-A explains that too, outlining the different components of Safe Service: team member care, hand washing, food safety, social distancing, frequent cleaning, and contactless ordering, payment, and delivery.

However, if you're looking for some at-home cow-related activities, Chick-fil-A has got you covered.

The website states, "Until we can gather again in person and celebrate our Cows, we have created a few fun ways to keep the spirit of Cow Appreciation Day alive this summer."

On Pinterest, the chain has a host of ideas for how your family can "enjoy cow-themed quality time together."

With that in mind, even though Chick-fil-A is skipping Cow Appreciation Day this year, you can still enjoy their delicious food with contactless buying options and drive-thru. And you can always dress up like a cow for free food next year!
