Chick-fil-A Offers Gift Cards After $4.4M Settlement Over Misleading Customers

January 23, 2024 by Faith Geiger

Long-time Chick-fil-A lovers may qualify for compensation as part of a recent $4.4 million settlement following a class action lawsuit filed against the popular fast food chain.

That’s right: If you ordered Chick-fil-A for delivery between November 2019 and May 2021, there’s a good chance you could receive payout from the company due to complaints of deceptive price changes. Find all the details below.

Chick-fil-A to Compensate Customers with Gift Cards or Cash

A lawsuit filed against Chick-fil-A in October claims that the company secretly raised prices on delivery items by up to 30% while advertising free or low-cost delivery on the website and app. As the settlement states: "Plaintiffs allege that by omitting, concealing, and misrepresenting material facts about CFA’s delivery service, CFA deceives consumers into making online food purchases they otherwise would not make."

As if the fact that they got rid of Styrofoam cups wasn't enough to upset customers!

Now, after a $4.4 million settlement was reached, customers who ordered online between Nov. 1, 2019 and April 30, 2021 in five states could receive a gift card or cash payout of $29.95. Only people who ordered for delivery in California, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, or New York are eligible.

Chick-fil-A has also agreed to provide email addresses to the settlement administrator in order to alert potential class members about the settlement and make them aware of the compensation options available to them.

Despite these agreements, Chick-fil-A does not admit to any wrongdoing.

Coffee chain Starbucks was also recently under fire as customers filed complaints of "unfair and deceptive practices" on the app. It's also worth noting that earlier this year, Chick-fil-A faced another challenge when it confirmed a data breach that exposed the personal and financial information of over 71,000 customers. These incidents, though unrelated to the current settlement, adds to the complexities faced by fast-food giants in ensuring the security and satisfaction of its customer base.
