Frozen meals are always convenient to have on hand for busy nights. However, on top of other health concerns associated with frozen food, there’s now one more thing you should be wary of if you have chicken fried rice stocked in your freezer: listeria.
The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service recently issued a recall on more than 13,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken fried rice from Freshness Guaranteed due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. Find all of the info below.
13,000 pounds of chicken fried rice recalled for potential Listeria contamination
The FSIS recently announced that Freshness Guaranteed-brand chicken fried rice tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Subsequently, Garland Ventures has issued a recall for 13,842 pounds of the brand's 12-ounce trays of Chicken Fried Rice Diced Chicken Meat with Vegetables and Rice in a Savory Soy Sauce. These products were reportedly shipped to retail locations across the United States.
Recalled products will have a lot code of 595874884 and a best-by date of 11/10/2024, with establishment number EST. P-31993. If you are in possession of a product that matches these numbers, you should discard of them immediately or return them to the point of purchase.
Luckily, there have been no illnesses linked to these products at this time. However, listeria poses a serious risk. Consuming listeria-contaminated food can lead to listeriosis infection, which is especially dangerous for elderly people, infants, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant people. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, digestive issues, and more.
