Typically, pasta noodles are made from refined grains – a processed food you want to limit if weight loss is your goal. Though it’s true that you can eat pretty much anything in moderation (including refined carbs like pasta) and still lose weight, you will definitely have to keep a closer eye on portion size when it comes to those carb-heavy dishes. With that in mind, a healthy pasta alternative, like chickpea pasta, could take some of the stress out of dieting.

Chickpea Pasta

Chickpea pasta is an excellent alternative if you're hoping to drop a few pounds. It has more nutritional value than traditional pasta, making it a good option for those wanting a healthier base for their favorite pasta dishes.

"Compared to traditional wheat-based pasta, a traditional 2-ounce serving size has slightly less calories, double the fiber, and up to double the protein, depending on the brand," Good Housekeeping explains.

Chickpeas contain a type of fiber called resistant starch, which could equal benefits for weight loss. "Resistant starch does not get digested by the human digestive system, so it travels to the large intestine where it can feed the healthy bacteria in our gut,” Jen Scheinman, RDN, tells The Healthy.

"Studies have shown that eating resistant starch may have health benefits, including improved insulin sensitivity and blood glucose levels, increased satiety, and potential weight loss. It may also play an important role in gut health," Scheinman explains.
