If you’re eating mindfully, Chipotle might not be in your regular restaurant rotation. Visiting the Mexican grill typically results in a food coma (and not a flat stomach), and a basic burrito *starts* at 320 calories at the chain. But health experts say there is a meal you can order to keep your intake under $500–and get some nutritious ingredients along the way. What is it?
Vegan Bowl
“From their preset menu, the vegan bowl provides the lowest calorie entree at 430 calories,” Holly Klamer, MS, RDN, of My Crohn’s and Colitis Team tells us.
What does the order contain? The bowl has a base of cilantro lime cauliflower rice. Sofritas (chopped tofu), black beans, fresh tomato salsa, roasted chili corn salsa and shredded romaine lettuce top it off. Yum!
“Even though this bowl is vegan, it provides a good amount of protein from the black beans and sofritas,” she explains.
Additionally, it contains 22 grams of protein, and is low in fat with only 14 grams total and 1.5 grams as saturated fat.
"Because this bowl is made mostly from veggies, it is high in fiber (18 grams), vitamin C (129% Daily Value) and vitamin A (63% DV)," she explains.
Not digging this order? "A close second for low calorie, nutrient dense entree are the Paleo salad bowl and vegetarian bowl, both providing 460 calories," she advises.
