Christina Aguilera took to Instagram last week to share a video of herself donning a revealing and form-fitting black athletic bodysuit as she promoted Barry’s, a popular gym and fitness center chain. The Grammy winner’s sultry outfit showcased her impressive weight loss of over 40 pounds.
The post sparked a flurry of reactions in the comments section, splitting the “Beautiful” singer’s fans into two camps. Some criticized Aguilera, 43, accusing her of falsely attributing her weight loss to exercise and alleging she had used drugs like Ozempic to shed the pounds. On the other hand, many fans rallied in her defense, applauding her for embracing a healthier lifestyle and supporting her right to promote fitness, regardless of the truth behind the Ozempic rumors.
On September 27th, the “Come on Over” artist shared the video of herself, celebrating 25 years of her first self-titled record and her limited edition Fuel Bar shake, “Genie In A Blender.” The mom of two headed to Barry’s WeHo studio and rocked the aforementioned curve-hugging Coperni bodysuit. She captioned her above post for her 9.9 million followers: “Thank you for having me @barrys.”
Fans headed to the comments section to share their thoughts. “Promoting a gym when the reason she got so skinny has nothing to do with exercise hahaaha,” one wrote as another added: “I don’t think she works out.” Someone else chimed in, commenting: “She never stepped in a gym this is silly.” Others mentioned the ongoing Ozempic and weight loss drug rumors.
More devotees came to her defense, however. One wrote: “I think she look beautiful and has at every body type let’s not worry about others and put worry on ourselves she looks healthy and happy.” Another concurred: “you look amazing and happier.” An additional user noted: “Looking incredible.”
This all comes after Aguilera candidly addressed her body image concerns following accusations from fans that she used Ozempic for weight loss, with some claiming she now looks “unrecognizable.” In a recent interview with Glamour for their August cover story, she reflected on the perpetual scrutiny she faced about her appearance throughout her career.
Aguilera revealed that she has finally arrived at a stage in her life where she no longer lets such judgments affect her. “I have a maturity now where I just don’t give a f—k about your opinion. I’m not going to take it on,” she dished to the outlet. The Burlesque alum went on: “It must be your responsibility to take up your space. Other people’s opinions of me are not my business.”
The “Genie in a Bottle” singer recounted how, in her youth, the media’s constant focus on her weight caused her self-esteem to hinge on “how thin I was.” She went on: “When you’re a teenager, you have a very different body than when you’re in your 20s. I started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable because it was like, ‘Oh, she’s getting thicker.’ Then I had industry people: ‘They liked your body and how you were as a skinny teenager.’”
Aguilera revealed that becoming a mother significantly changed her perspective on body image criticism, as the “Beautiful” crooner was determined to shield her children from undergoing the same experiences she had.
