According To Doctors, This Is The One Coffee Drink You Should Be Avoiding At All Costs (It’s Not A Latte!)

Coffee is a stimulant that has many health benefits (in addition to giving you that much-needed energy boost first thing in the morning), but health experts warn that certain coffee orders could be catching up with you rather quickly when it comes to things like driving up your blood glucose and causing crashes later in the day. Coffee drinks made with syrup at both popular spots like Starbucks and Dunkin’, as well as mom and pop coffee shops, are generally quite damaging to your health, they warn. Here’s what they had to say:

Coffee Drinks With Syrup

They may add flavor, but coffees made with syrup add a lot of health risks, too. “Avoid flavored syrups in your coffee as they are widely sweetened with corn syrup that drives blood glucose way up causing weight gain,” Dr. Sera Balderston, DOM, of Integrity Health Corporation tells us.

“Foods with added simple sugars may give you an initial energy surge, but they will likely cause an energy crash later in the day,” Stephanie Hunter, M.Ed, Nutrition Education, CHES® and Coach Project Coordinator at Noom agrees This is because simple sugars are digested by the body quickly, and they will not serve as an energy source in the longer term.

“Caffeine paired with sugar is a formula for a spike in blood sugar causing trembling fingers and that on-edge feeling that you rather avoid,” certified yoga instructor and health expert Jeanine Duval of Edelwyn echoes.
