Starting your morning with a cup of coffee might seem like a good idea for weight loss, but the truth is it’s very dependent on how you take your coffee. If you’re a fan of specialty coffee drinks or typically load up on sugar and creamer, your morning cup of coffee might not be as diet-friendly as you’d hope.
With that in mind, keep reading for the one coffee hack nutritionists swear by for weight loss!
Protein Coffee
Instead of opting for black coffee, adding a source of protein to your morning coffee can do wonders for weight loss.
According to Annessa Chumbley, registered dietitian and nutritionist, "By adding protein to your morning routine, you are effectively jump-starting your metabolism. Because protein helps to keep you feel fuller for longer, a protein-rich breakfast can reduce appetite and hunger throughout the day."
So not only should you opt for protein-rich foods, but also try incorporating some into your coffee.
Doing so can be a great way to achieve more efficient weight loss. Chumbley continues, "In addition to satiating hunger, protein is especially beneficial in preserving lean muscle mass during weight loss."
With that in mind, if you aren't getting enough protein in the morning, putting some in your coffee is a good place to start.
Chumbley recommends finding a Premier Protein Shake flavor you love and using that in your coffee to make it higher in protein without adding in too much sugar or calories: "One of the easiest way to add protein into your diet is by swapping your coffee creamer with a Premier Protein Shake. Not only do they taste so good it’s hard to believe they’re actually good for you, but each shake also contains 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories."
So if you want to speed up weight loss without resorting to black coffee, try adding a protein shake to the mix to kickstart your metabolism and stay fuller throughout the day.
