It’s no secret that TikTok and BeautyTok can be a go-to destination for flattering makeup tips, tricks and hacks for mature beauties over 40.

In an engaging TikTok video, popular creator and makeup artist Lauren Hale offered valuable insights for women over 40 on how to make their black eyeliner more flattering, enhancing their eyes without highlighting wrinkles or fine lines.

She emphasized that aging doesn’t mean abandoning beloved makeup styles; rather, it’s about making slight adjustments in application. Demonstrating two methods, she contrasted the “old way” with a more age-appropriate technique that better suits mature skin.

As the video began, Hale captioned her clip: “pov: they told you to stop wearing black eyeliner once you hit 40,” while holding up an eyeliner pencil. For the “old way” of applying eyeliner, she was seen putting it directly in a thick line on her eyelid, just above her lashes. “Overlining mature eyes can make them look heavy, droopy and show texture,” she explained. She then put more of the product directly beneath her eye.

"Instead, try this," she said while lifting her upper eyelashes and using the same eyeliner pencil to "fill in the spaces between the lashes." The makeup artist then said that this hack "gives definition and helps the lashes look fuller."

Hale went on to note that "it's not that black eyeliner is bad, it's that overlining the eyes as we age can cause our already aging eyes to look a lot more heavier and droopy."

Instead, she stressed that applying "black or brown if you prefer, really any color, with this new method" gives the eye "a lighter, more lifted look." If you have sensitive eyes, she added that "you are not drawing on the waterline."

You are "using a creamy eyeliner and drawing on the lashes and higher in-between so it should still work for you," she went on.

Hale continued: "I have very watery eyes and this doesn't bother them." As for the product used in her video, the creator shared that she opted for the $23 Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in the shade Perversion (Matte Blackest Black).

We're def trying this hack!
