Costco Wholesale has made a huge change to its bakery menu and customers are not happy about it.

According to Business Insider, "Costco confirmed that the half-sheet cakes are not available in any US locations and there are currently no plans to bring them back."
According to the company's statement, "We are focusing on our smaller 10 'White & 10' Chocolate Cakes that seem to be resonating with our members."
Customers were definitely upset about the announcement. One Facebook user responded to their announcement, "Please bring back the sheet cakes, even if just for preorder. The round are not large enough for larger families. We've had 3 birthday we would have bought them for, another coming up soon as well as graduation. Our grocery store cakes are good, but not Costco good."
Another wrote, "It is ridiculous that they are not making the sheet cakes... I was told today they may never bring them [back]! What is their reasoning for this? They are making other bakery items."
Some even started a Change.org petition to bring back the bakery item.
According to Fox Business, Costco's reasoning for suspending their half-sheet cakes has to do with Covid-19. As social distancing requirements have stopped larger celebrations, the company has focused on offering smaller cakes.
The article explains, "The big-box retailer will sell its 10-inch round cakes instead, which feed 8 to 10 people, and are suitable for socially distanced gatherings and has no immediate plans to bring back the larger sheet cakes, a Costco spokesperson confirmed."
Although some states have eased coronavirus restrictions and have begun to open back up, the retailer does not yet have any plans to bring back the popular cakes.
