Costco fans, take note! The retail chain has just recalled two popular items due to undeclared allergens and the “potential presence of plastic.”
According to recall notices released last week, Ellenos Vanilla Been Greek Yogurt singles and 12-packs and Pescanova Shrimp Street Tacos with Roasted Corn, Poblano & Chipotle Sauce are being recalled by Costco due to warnings issued by the products' companies, Ellenos and Pescanova. Both recalls were announced on the same day, April 25th.
Recalled: Ellenos Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt Singles and 12-Packs
Single and 12-pack cases of Ellenos Vanilla Bean Yogurt were recalled by Ellenos (and thus Costco) as they are believed to contain undeclared egg, which would put those with egg allergies at serious risk if they were consumed. It seems that the brand realized that there was a mislabelling accident that affected those vanilla bean-flavored yogurt cups with a BEST BEFORE date of 04/23/2023. The date can be seen printed on the yogurt's blue foil seal. The Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt 4 oz. cup has the UPC 8 57290 00620 1 and it is sold as part of the 12-pack case. Each 12-pack case has the UPC 8 57290 00617 1.
After an internal investigation, Ellenos determined the Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt cups were inadvertantly packed with their Lemon Curd Greek Yogurt product, which has egg in it. Since the Vanilla Bean yogurt does not have egg, and thus does not warn of the allergen on its label, this led to the undeclared allergen concern.
Recalled: Pescanova Shrimp Street Tacos With Roasted Corn, Poblano & Chipotle Sauce
The second Costco recall announced April 25th affects a frozen meal item, Pescanova's Shrimp Street Tacos with Roasted Corn, Poblano & Chipotle Sauce. There are no undeclared allergens in the tacos like with the yogurt recall, but there may be something else in the item that customers aren't expecting: plastic.
Pescanova announced it was pulling the frozen product off the market due to potential plastic contamination for pieces of plastic up to 5 millimeters in size. The products affected are labeled with lot numbers 23-359, 230370, and 230411 on both the inner and outer packages.
If you have purchased Ellenos Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt or Pescanova Shrimp Street Tacos with Roasted Corn, Poblano & Chipotle Sauce recently, you are urged to not consume the products and dispose of or return the items to Costco for a full refund.
