Costco is a pretty universally loved retail wholesale store, with quality items at great prices, from grocery items to furniture, and appliances to clothing. However, one of Costco’s newest bakery items has missed the mark, according to customer reviews. Shoppers are calling the Caramel Apple Mini Cakes “not good at all” and “very dry” with a “terrible artificial caramel taste.”
This just goes to show that not every item can be a winner—even at Costco. Luckily, there are a plethora of accounts on Instagram dedicated to reviewing the newest Costco items so you can know which are better left on the shelf, including these Caramel Apple Mini Cakes. Costco misses the mark with ‘Caramel Apple Mini Cakes’
With ‘caramel apple’ being one of the most popular flavors of the fall, shoppers had high hopes for the new seasonal dessert. However, many were ultimately disappointed. The mini cakes cost $8.99 and come in a package of six—which seems like a great deal. Unfortunately, though, while they’re found in the beloved bakery section among many fan-favorite items like the Mini Carrot Cakes with Cream Cheese Frosting and Peanut Butter Chocolate Cream Pie, this item misses the mark.
Instagram users weigh in on the 'disappointing' seasonal dessert
The Instagram account @CostcoFoodReviews posted a carousel of photos of the Caramel Apple Mini Cakes on Oct. 8th, with a lengthy review in the caption. "These were not my favorite mini cakes that I’ve tried from Costco," the review began. "The baked cinnamon apples on top were very tasty," the user continued, "but the overall artificial caramel flavor overpowered this dessert for me."
Though the account owner gave the dessert a 5/10, their 54.7K followers weren’t as nice. "1/10 I hated them," one follower commented. "I was so disappointed," another replied, adding a frowny face.
"Me and all my staff hated these," one user said. "The frosting on ours was like a stick of butter," they added. "I thought these were a huge miss!!" another shopper added with a barfing emoji.
One reddit user posted that the mini cakes "tasted like how a campfire smells." We're not sure what that means, but don’t want to find out!
Safe to say we will be taking these users' word for it and steering clear of this fall dessert! For Costco items that are always a winner with customers, check out these fan-favorite items.
