1. Mini Cucumbers
Mini cucumbers are certainly tasty and easy to munch on. In fact, they make one of the healthiest snacks around. But Costco shoppers warn that you might want to get this veggie elsewhere—because they mold at lightning speed. One commenter said that they'll never buy "those danged mini cucumbers. You can take your time picking the most firm, fresh bag and they will be growing more fuzzy hair than Willie Nelson by the time you get them out of the car."
Someone else agreed: "They’re moldy in less than 24hrs." Yikes!
2. Strawberries
Speaking of mold, you may want to steer clear of the strawberries at Costco, too. Although eating berries on a regular basis comes with numerous health benefits, a moldy batch will certainly negate that. One Redditor complained: "Every time they mold and I vow to stop buying them, and yet I continue to."
Many echoed the same sentiment. "100%. Two days after purchase and mold all over. I’ve tried to wash them. Doesn’t matter," one person wrote. Noted!
3. Madras Lentils
Lentils are another tasty, healthy staple in many kitchens. But high prices and deteriorating quality have turned many Costco shoppers away from the Madras Lentils at the warehouse. "Used to buy the Madras Lentils like crazy," reads one comment. "Then they doubled in price and became oddly soupy? Idk. Total no go now."
Others agreed that the price is too high. "They used to be a cheap, easy, and delicious meal. Now they're shockingly expensive for a bag of lentils."
4. Kirkland Batteries
A good battery should last as long as possible. Unfortunately, although buying batteries in bulk from Costco may seem like a good idea, many shoppers think the quality of the Kirkland variety isn't worth it. "I seem to have bad luck with them," says one comment. "While I haven’t taken notes or performed a test with a double blind study, it sure seems like they develop corrosion quickly and often. I’ll buy batteries from Costco but it is only Duracell or Energizer."
5. Bananas
So, the cucumbers mold overnight, the strawberries also go bad quickly, and, apparently, the bananas go from green to brown in a flash, too. "I do not care for their bananas," says one comment. "It’s weird - their bananas are ripe when they’re still green and then once they turn yellow they turn brown the next day."
Others confirmed that the too-fast ripening has turned them away from buying Costco bananas. "I've literally never seen those bananas turn yellow. They go from green to rotting green," said one person. Guess we'll stick to Trader Joe's!
6. Frozen Brussels Sprouts
Okay, so we know that a lot of Costco product doesn't last very long... but if you think the solution is to throw frozen veggies into your cart, that might not be a much better option. According to some shoppers, this is the case with the frozen Brussels sprouts—although they won't go bad quickly, they also won't taste very good. "The frozen Brussels are AWFUL," someone complained. "Had really high hopes as well."
Someone else wrote that they "taste like hairspray." Um, we're going to have to pass on that.
7. Beef Brisket Burnt Ends
There are a lot of great, high-quality food items at Costco. Unfortunately, shoppers warn that the Beef Brisket Burnt Ends is not one of them. One person gave them a simple, straightforward "Yuck!" while other reviews note that they're "rubbery, overly smokey, and just bad."
"Yeah these looked sooo good. But are sooo bad," one Redditor lamented. Sigh. Many such cases.
