Lovers of both Costco and sushi may be excited to hear that this beloved warehouse store is rolling out a brand new section in their food court at select locations: A fresh-made sushi counter! However, some Reddit users are chiming in to claim that the food may not be all that great, after all.

Costco introduces sushi counters

Costco may be known for their bulk deals, but their food court items are always an added plus (even if some are overpriced). Reddit user independent_laugh_11 broke the news about the new sushi counters on the Costco subreddit, sharing a photo of the soon-to-come sushi station at the Issaquah, WA location.

"Employee saw me taking a picture and told me it opens this coming Friday, 6/9. Can’t wait to try it! Hoping it’s much better than the pre-packaged variety they’ve sold in the past," they wrote. These sushi counters already exist in Hawaii and Japan.

While many commenters were expressing excitement, a few were quick to make their negative opinions clear.

"We’ve already had it in shoreline. It is f---ing terrible," one wrote. "The rice is hard and the fish is near flavorless. I’m not saying this as a sushi snob." Yikes!

However, it's unclear whether this user was talking about the fresh sushi from these new counters or the pre-made rolls that have been sold at certain locations for a while now, which come from a manufacturer rather than being made in the store. This was a point of confusion among the comment section.

"This is supposed to be freshly made and rolled in the warehouse- the other sushi they carry comes from a distributor and is known to be horrible. Which is why everyone is excited," one user clarified.

Another person said that even the fresh-made sushi didn't quite meet the mark. "I had the one in Redmond which was fresh made," they wrote. "The big problem was that both rice and fish had to be cold because they need to be reirrigated and cold rice doesn't work in sushi and you can't leave it out long enough for rice to get warm before fish is ruined."

Someone else, who says they've tried the fresh sushi in Hawaii, says that "Unfortunately it’s similar to other grocery store sushi," while another said that "If its anything like the costco sushi ive had in south korea and hawaii, it should be decent!"

With so many mixed reviews, we guess we'll just have to try Costco sushi for ourselves. But we may just have to add it to the list of things you should never buy from the store.

Maybe we'll just stick to this popular frozen fish instead.

One thing's for sure, though; as one commenter pointed out: "They will do ANYTHING except bring back combo pizza." LOL!
