Costco, the beloved warehouse retailer known for its bulk deals and irresistible food court offerings (shoutout to that hot dog combo!) is stirring up some mixed reactions with the potential addition of a new item to its food court menu: A Turkey & Swiss Sandwich. It seems this new offering might not be hitting the mark with fans as expected. Find all the details below.

Turkey & Swiss Sandwich May Hit Costco Food Court

News of the potential new sandwich, a Turkey & Swiss creation, was shared by the Instagram account @costcoinsider earlier this month. “New Food Court item coming soon! Turkey & Swiss Sandwich for $6.99,” the caption says. Comes with a roll, brown turkey, swiss cheese, sun dried tomato spread, green leaf, and dijon. ETA is end of February. What are your initial reactions??” And the reactions were… not the best.

Costco Shoppers Miss Turkey & Provolone Sandwich

Instead of sparking excitement, this announcement seems to have left many customers yearning for something else. Comments on the post and subsequent Reddit threads reveal a longing for the return of fan-favorites, including the combo pizza, soft serve yogurt, and above all, a different turkey sandwich from Costco’s past: the Hot Turkey & Provolone Sandwich. This former food court star, which fans sometimes refer to as the “turkey pesto sandwich,” or “turkey pesto provolone,” featured turkey, provolone, red onion, tomato, and basil garlic mayonnaise on a toasted roll. Although discontinued, the sandwich has never left the hearts of Costco members.

“Reminds me of the turkey pesto panini I wish they would bring back!” remarked one Instagram user on the post about the new sandwich, echoing the sentiment shared by many.

A Reddit post garnered similar reactions, with users lamenting the absence of the beloved Turkey & Provolone sandwich.

“All I want is my turkey pesto provolone!” exclaimed one Redditor.

“Just make the turkey provolone pesto,” another demanded.

“Just another cold and dry sandwich. Instant pass. I’m sure it will also cost more than the old toasted turkey provolone. It’s going to be another failure,” predicts one comment.

The dissatisfaction seems to partly stem from the fact that the proposed sandwich is served cold, whereas the beloved Turkey & Provolone was toasted to perfection.

“If it’s not going through a panini press, I don’t think most people will be interested,” remarked one Reddit user, encapsulating the sentiments of many.

Even posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) echoed the same sentiment, with users directly appealing to Costco to bring back the Turkey & Provolone.

“@Costco can u bring back the turkey pesto sandwich plz,” wrote one user.

“I miss that hot pesto, turkey sandwich from Costco..” another post reads.

A petition has even been launched to bring back the cherished sandwich, underscoring the passion and nostalgia customers feel for this discontinued item.

Costco Shoppers Complain About Food Court Prices

But the fact that it's not the beloved Turkey & Provolone isn't the only issue Costco shoppers have with this rumored new addition. Criticisms have been raised regarding the price point of the new sandwich. Some customers are questioning why a simple sandwich at Costco should cost $6.99 when the beloved classics were priced lower.

"Why is it so hard to make a sandwich $4.99? Just a sandwich by itself at Costco should be $4.99," questioned one Reddit user, reflecting the feelings of many.

"Never been excited about an expensive turkey sandwich," someone else echoed. This isn't the first complaint about Costco's food court pricing; similar critiques have been spurred by other recent additions

Adding insult to injury, there are also concerns about the perceived quality of the new sandwich. Many customers have expressed skepticism about its appeal, with some even dubbing it "dry" based on its appearance.

But what do you think? Does the Turkey & Swiss sandwich really sound so bad? Will it win over hearts and taste buds, or will it pale in comparison to the beloved classics? Only time will tell. But for now, fans of the Turkey & Provolone sandwich will continue to long for its return to the Costco food court menu.
