Costco’s Shocking Holiday Shortages—This Is So Bad For Shoppers!
October 22, 2021 by Justine Schwartz
Costco isn’t making the holidays easier for us this year! The wholesale chain will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas 2021, AND they are facing shortages and price increases on key holiday items like Christmas trees. Yikes! It’s like they have the Grinch working for them this year. Here’s everything we know about this unprecedented news:
Christmas TreesMany people go to Costco for their Christmas trees, and the American Christmas Tree Association (ACTA) has some bad news: Costco and other retailers will have fewer trees in stock this year (and the prices will be higher!) thanks to extreme weather and pandemic-related supply chain issues. Say it ain’t so.
“Costco, and all retailers, will be impacted by the reduced tree supply this season. We anticipate that most retailers that typically sell both live and artificial trees will continue to do so, although they will have limited supply compared to past years,” the ACTA told Fox Business.
Party SuppliesIf you’re having guests over for holiday entertaining, you’re going to need toilet paper and bottled water–both of which have had product limits imposed on them at the wholesale store recently. Company CFO Richard Galanti explained that stores were bringing back the limitations during a the Q4 earnings call, joking “It’s a lot of fun right now.” Try being a host that can’t get any bathroom paper for their guests, Richard!
The company asserts that is doing everything it can not to ruin the holidays this year, even renting 3 container ships and “several thousand containers” to try to stay ahead of the global shipping crisis. Here’s hoping!
