Courteney Cox’s Bombshell About ‘Friends’—We Did NOT See This Coming!
March 18, 2022 by Marissa Matozzo
While many Friends fans might remember so much of the sitcom ever since it was made available on streaming services (and possible to binge over and over), Courteney Cox just revealed that she may not recall filming our favorite scenes.
The iconic actress, 57, brought Monica Gellar to our screens for 10 whole seasons. Surprisingly, as she explained in a new interview with TODAY last week, the Friends reunion in May 2021 made her realize how much of her experience as a cast member she had forgotten.
“I should’ve watched all 10 seasons because when I did the reunion and was asked questions, I was like, ‘I don’t remember being there,” she said, “I don’t remember filming so many episodes.” Cox continued, “I see it on TV sometimes and I stop and go, ‘Oh my God, I don’t remember this at all.” Regarding her forgetfulness, Cox explained that she simply has a “bad memory” in general. “I don’t remember any trauma in my childhood,” she said,”but I have like three memories. I don’t know. I don’t know why.”
Cox also added that she’s noticed a difference with from the OG Friends and the version sometimes broadcast on television, in which the show is slightly “sped up” to fit more advertisements in the commercial breaks. “I sound the way I think Minnie Mouse or Tinkerbell sound like. I hate my voice,” she said. “When [the show] is not sped up,” she clarified, “I like it.”
The Scream star did share one regret she had from her Friends filming days, and it just might touch your heart. Cox said that she regretted not taking enough photos with her castmates Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer. “I don’t have much to look back at,” she said, expressing that she wished snapping more pics behind-the-scenes and during the creation of the show with her co-stars.
In the 17 years since Friends has been off the air, it’s remained a popular mainstay and legendary sitcom, and Cox admits that she has to recognize it’s undeniable significance in pop culture. “It doesn’t matter what generation is watching, it holds up,” she said. “I think the comedy is relevant.” We agree! Ultimately, even if Cox doesn’t remember every Monica scene or famous lines, they’ll thankfully always “be there for” us to stream.
