In recent years, consumers have grown increasingly cautious about the safety and quality of the food they eat. Concerns about additives, preservatives, and the overall integrity of the food supply chain have led many to scrutinize the products they purchase more closely than ever before. This heightened vigilance is particularly evident in the popularity of organic and locally sourced foods, as people seek greater transparency and assurances about what they are consuming.
A recent viral TikTok video by user Dion (@dion.drange) has sparked a fresh wave of anxiety and discussion regarding food dye, particularly found on Eggland’s Best eggs purchased at Walmart. Find all of the details below.

TikToker claims Walmart trying to “poison” consumers with dye on eggs
In his viral video, Dion showcases a dozen eggs purchased from Walmart, specifically from the brand Eggland’s Best, and raises serious concerns about the quality and safety of these eggs. Two of the eggs are cracked into a bowl, revealing what appears to be paint on the eggshells.
“I don’t know what Walmart has got going on, but they’re painting all these eggs,” Dion says in the video, pointing out the red spots visible on the eggs. He holds an eggshell up to the camera to demonstrate, showing that the red dye seems to penetrate the shell. “Look, y’all, the paint is coming through the eggs! And not only that, you can see it in this bowl.”
Dion is evidently concerned about the potential health risks of the dye and shocked by the amount of it. "It’s not only a little paint," he emphasizes, attempting to wash the substance off his hands. "They’re trying to feed us this."
"What is this stuff? What is the purpose of this?" he asks. "All my life, eggs have never been like this." As he continues to handle the dye, he notes its persistence, saying, "Look at this! This, this doesn’t just come off, and you know how strong that’s got to be to be going through the eggshell."
In a text overlay on the video, Dion writes, "And these are the organic eggs. They’re trying to poison us."
"Can't even survive in peace on this planet anymore they tryna shove chemicals in ya body 24/7," the caption says.
The eggs in question are from Eggland’s Best, a brand known for its high quality. According to Eggland’s Best’s website, "The Eggland’s Best logo identifies eggs that are produced according to the EB management program required for a wholesome and nutritious product. The program incorporates guidelines for feeding, animal welfare, housing, disease prevention, and quality control required to create an EB Egg."
As for the nature of the dye itself, Eggland states that "the logo is applied by stamping machines which use an FDA-compliant, USDA-approved, food-safe ink that is acceptable as a food additive." This means that the red dye seen on the eggshells is actually a food-safe ink that is not harmful to consume.
The video has sparked a heated debate among viewers, many of whom share Dion’s concerns. Comments on the video echo his fears, with one user stating, "Probably total poison," while another adds, "Poisoning is in every single way possible." Several commenters mentioned a shift in their egg purchasing habits, opting to support local farms instead of buying from stores. "I no longer buy eggs from the store. I do business with a local farm only," one user shared, a sentiment that was echoed by many others. However, many assert that it's perfect safe.
Regardless, this incident raises important questions about food safety and transparency in the supply chain. While the use of FDA-compliant, USDA-approved, food-safe ink on Eggland’s Best eggs is intended to be harmless, Dion's reaction highlights a growing consumer demand for clear communication and reassurance regarding the safety and quality of their food products.
