There’s no denying that Costco has a hoard of loyal customers. From their unbeatable prices and sales on bulk products to their cult-favorite food court menu and delicious bakery items, there’s a lot to love about this warehouse store. However, with so many great qualities, their bound to falter in a few departments here and there.

As it turns out, one customer turned to Reddit to express frustration with the quality of Costco’s produce—and may even cancel their membership over it. Read on to learn about why shoppers are saying about the “increasing prices and lower quality.”

Costco customer complains about produce

Is there anything more frustrating than stocking up on produce just for it all to go bad in the blink of an eye? We've all been there from time to time. According to one post in the Costco subreddit, though, this may be  becoming a regular occurrence at everyone's favorite membership-based warehouse store.

"Am I the only one who buys salads from Costco only to find brown lettuce and squishy tomatoes?" the poster wrote, accompanied by photos of brown, wilted lettuce. They said they'd be returning the product to the store. "I'm sick of this... I'm going to make my own salads from now on." (Maybe they'll want to try one of these tasty salad recipes!)

The user went on to say that it isn't just the lettuce that they've had issues with: "Costco's Produce overall is crap, it's either squishy (zucchini and squash) or far from ripe," they said.

According to the poster, the poor quality and customer service may be the last straw. "I've been so disappointed at the increasing prices and the lower quality I'm actually thinking of cancelling my membership, not that they would care, the people at my Costco are horrible at customer service, don't dare ask a question, you're only bothering them!" they ranted.

So, what do other people think? A few agreed that Costco is "hit or miss" in the produce department. "I bought a bag of avocados from Costco once and they never ripened just a big bag of rock-hard avocados," one wrote.

"Sometimes all they have is old salad. That's when I move on and don't buy it," another said. However, they noted that they "buy prepackaged salad all the time and have no issues." They also gave some produce-purchasing tips: "Don't just look at the expiration date, look at the actual product."

Another commented chimed in to say that they regularly buy produce from Costco with no issues. "The romaine heads and big tubs of cherry tomatoes are on my regular purchase list. They hold up fine and taste good."

It isn't surprising, though, that shoppers have become more skeptical with the quality of Costco's items in recent months. After the store confirmed they would raise their membership prices, it makes sense for people to get critical about whether or not it's worth paying for.

But what do you think? Is this a race produce instance, or are people better off buying their lettuce elsewhere? Let us know in the comments!
