Subway, well-known for its customizable, oftentimes healthy sandwiches, has recently come under scrutiny from customers on TikTok after Joe Kidd, unleashed a conspiracy theory about their freshly sliced meat. Kidd, also known as @dadcasualtv, pointed out a curious practice: while their previous, pre-sliced meats were visible to customers, the new, freshly sliced variety is hidden.
Although there’s some debate over the reasoning for this—Kidd and some other people think something fishy is going on—one thing has been made clear in the comments section: Customers are fed up with Subway. Find all the details below.

TikToker calls out meat “conspiracy” at Subway
Kidd begins his video by refreshing our memory on the history of Subway’s meat practices. “Did you know that Subway used to use packaged pre-sliced meat? And now they’ve apparently switched to slicing the meat fresh for you themselves,” he says. Indeed, the sandwich chain implemented this policy last year.
“But now that they’re freshly slicing the meat themselves, they’ve got this metal cover over the meat and you can’t see it,” Kidd goes on. “And the question I ask you is: What are you hiding, Subway? Show us the meat. Why can’t we see it? It’s conspiracy, and I promise you I will get to the bottom of it.”
Joe's observations ignited a flurry of reactions and comments from Subway customers and fans, reflecting a mix of surprise, speculation, and disappointment.
"Some people had theories. "I assume they’re still using prepackaged meats, and the meat slicer there on the counter is just for show," one comment reads.
However, employees at Subway stepped in to debunk these theories, offering a different perspective: "It’s to keep the meat colder. Lol. I work at Subway."
Despite explanations from employees, many customers expressed frustration with Subway’s perceived changes in food quality and pricing:
"The meat looks and tastes the same it’s just now $6 extra," one comment complained.
"Subway has gotten way too expensive," one commenter lamented. "I stopped eating at Subway a year ago; they're asking way too much for a bland sub with no flavor," another shared.
"Foot long turkey, add bacon. It was 13.00. Yep. That will be the last time I’ll be at subway," someone else chimed in." Rapidly rising prices are a common complaint about fast food lately. Restaurants like McDonald's have caught a lot of flack for it, too.
This backlash underscores broader concerns within Subway’s customer base about transparency in food preparation and overall satisfaction with their dining experience. Whether Subway will address these concerns or adjust their practices remains to be seen.
But what do you think? Is this a standard, acceptable practice? Or just a fast food scheme? Let us know in the comments!
