Dakota Johnson, 33, arrived on the red carpet for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival opening party on Jan. 19 in Park City, Utah, in a head-to-toe denim ensemble. It seems like Johnson is embracing the Candian Tuxedo look–and taking it even one step further with not two but three denim pieces. We’re obsessed!

Dakota Johnson Steps Out In Sexy Denim On Denim Number For Sundance

Why do double denim when triple denim looks even better? The actress’ indigo-blue outfit for Sundance was quite the departure from her usual retro-inspired gowns. Maybe we’ll start seeing Johnson rock more casually chic red carpet looks in the future! The all-denim number styled by A-list go-to Magda Butrym was comprised of an ab-baring corset top, high-waisted bell-bottom jeans, and a structured double-breasted trenchcoat. To top the look off, Johnson wore a Jessica McCormack diamond chain necklace, an Annika Inez ring, diamond stud earrings, and a pair of black pumps. It all makes for a slightly eccentric take on the Canadian Tuxedo trend.

For makeup, Johnson went for a simple but flirty look featuring a glossy pink lip, blush, and just a touch of mascara. She worked with hairstylist Mark Townsend who styled her iconic hair in a straightened style with bangs in the front.

This year’s Sundance Film Festival had a hybrid format. They screened films both in-person and online. This is the first in-person event for Sundance as it has been completely virtual for the past two years. The annual film festival presents new short films, documentaries, and mini-episode content. The Sundance Film Festival also offers awards, including the Directing Award and the Festival Favorite Award.

The actress attended the “A Taste of Sundance” dinner where she presented Italian film director Luca Guadagnino with the International Icon Award. Guadagnino is probably most well known for directing the 2017 Oscar-nominated film Call Me by Your Name. This critically acclaimed film originally premiered at Sundance. Johnson starred in both Guadagnino’s 2015 crime drama A Bigger Splash and his 2018’s Suspiria remake. The director’s latest film is Bones and All, a project starring Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet, whom he worked with on Call Me by Your Name. Bones and All has also been nominated for various awards this season.

Dakota Johnson Makes A Crude Armie Hammer Joke: ‘Who Knew Cannibalism Was So Popular?’

Johnson kicked off the dinner with a scandalous joke. While presenting Guadagnino with his award, she applauded the director’s 2017 film Call Me by Your Name. Johnson quipped that she was offered the part of the peach in the coming-of-age story. But she had to turn down the pivotal role, she says, due to scheduling conflicts. “Thank god, though,” she said. “I would have been another woman that Armie Hammer would have tried to eat.”

A few years after Call Me by Your Name was released, Hammer faced allegations of cannibalistic fetishes, sexual assault, and abusive behavior by girlfriends he dated while cheating on his wife. He has since denied all accusations but has moved away from the public eye. A documentary about these allegations and about the Hammer family’s dark secrets was released in Sept. 2022 titled, House of Hammer.

“It’s been five years since that film premiered here, and Luca hasn’t stopped taking us to exciting places,” Johnson said, referencing Guadagnino’s latest film Bones and All, a romantic drama about two young lovers who also love human flesh. “Who knew cannibalism was so popular?” she joked, which elicited a chuckle from the crowd.

“In my mind, and I feel like probably in your mind too, Luca Guadagnino is the epitome of an international icon,” Johnson, who recently became engaged to Coldplay’s Chris Martin, said about Guadagino. “He wears Prada all the time.”
