Even though Apple continues to release the latest and greatest iPhone models (the newest arrival is its iPhone 12, which comes in four different models), your budget may not allow for a new phone every year. Or maybe you’re just perfectly happy with the phone you already have, but want to make sure it stays in peak condition. The apps that you download and use can have an effect on your phone’s battery, and if you want to preserve your phone for longer, maintaining its battery is a good idea. Delete these apps ASAP to make your old iPhone last longer.
It may come as little shock that Facebook is a battery drain — in fact, you’ve probably already noticed that your battery power drops significantly any time you use the app. Facebook runs in the background, is constantly syncing updates, and plays videos, all of which consume a ton of battery power.
Facebook Messenger
Similar to Facebook, the Facebook Messenger app provides many of the same battery-draining features, including syncing your contacts and pushing notifications your way when you receive a message. Unfortunately, unlike Facebook, you can’t use it to send or receive messages unless you download the app or wait until you’re on your laptop. One option if you rely on the service is to download Messenger Lite, which provides some of the same features without draining your battery as much.
Google Maps
Everyone loves the service provided by Google Maps, but the navigation app can be a total battery drain because it requires constant access to your location. One way to limit the amount of battery Maps consumes is by changing your settings so that the app only has access to your location when it’s in use. To do this go to Settings > Google Maps > Location > and choose Ask Next Time or While Using The App to limit its access to your location.
Old Zombie Apps
If there are old apps on your phone, including gaming apps, there’s a chance they no longer offer updates and can be a security risk. Why take that chance on an app that you no longer use? You can easily delete the apps that no longer serve you by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Offload Unused Apps. This will automatically delete the apps you seldom, if ever, use, which helps give you back storage and battery power.
