Demi Lovato – who recently confirmed that she will now also be using she/her pronouns in addition to they/them – didn’t hold back when it came to talking about ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama in her new song “29,” taken from her upcoming new album “Holy Fvck” which is out on August 19th.
In the song, Demi, now 29 herself, references her past relationship with the 42-year-old That 70’s Show actor, with her calling him out for the fact that they started dating when she was technically still a minor. Rumor has it that the pair started seeing each other when Wilmer was 29 years old and Demi was just 17, although the “Confident” singer previously confirmed in her 2017 Simply Complicated documentary that they actually waited until she turned 18 to date, so we don’t know what the truth is.
In the documentary, the former Camp Rock star said: “When I met him and I laid eyes on him for the first time, I was in hair and makeup and I was like, ‘I love this man and I have to have him.’ But I was only 17 so he was like, ‘Get away from me.’ After I turned 18, we began dating.” However, the lyrics in her new song tell a slightly different story…
Demi sings: “Too young to drink wine / Just 5 years of bleeders. “What the [expletive] is consent / Numbers told you not to / But that didn’t stop you.” She then went on to acknowledge the fact that she is “finally 29,” i.e., the age he was when they first started dating. “Finally 29, funny just like you were at the time,” the song continues. “Thought it was just a teenage dream / Just a fantasy / But was it yours or mine? / 17. 29.” Who or what do we believe?!
