Biden Struggles In First Presidential Debate
Joe Biden was fighting an uphill battle before the debate even started—he's reportedly battling a cold, which may explain why his voice sounded so raspy, but others think the cold claim is just an excuse. He lost his train of thought on numerous occasions, said the wrong numbers when reciting statistics, and often seemed like he couldn't find the words he wanted to say. For example, at one instance he started talking about taxes:
"We have 1,000 trillionaires in America—I mean billionaires in America. And what's happening? They're in a situations where they, in fact, pay 8.2% taxes, if they just paid 24%, 25%, either one of those numbers—we'd raise $500 million dollars—billion dollars I should say—in a 10-year period," he said. He then listed different things America could use that money for: child care, health care, "making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the COVID, excuse me, with, dealing with everything we have to do with, uh…"
He then paused and said again, "Excuse me, dealing with everything we have to do with..." he paused again before saying, "Look, if we finally beat Medicare."
Trump cheekily responded by saying, "He did beat Medicaid, beat it to death, that he's destroying Medicare." It's not clear what either nominee is talking about, but Biden's performance made one thing clear to democrats: he is not the right candidate, and if they don't do something fast, they're going to lose the election to Donald Trump, the felon.
Democrats Beg Joe Biden To Step Down
Waves of reactions to the presidential debate made their way to social media, with Democrats realizing that they're not going to win this one with Joe Biden as their nominee. "I am a Democrat," one person tweeted. "Joe Biden needs to step down. Michelle Obama would be the perfect candidate for the Democratic Party. We will not win with Joe Biden."
"If Joe Biden cared about this country he would step down," said another.
"I love Joe Biden," one person tweeted. "But tonight's debate hurt."
"I don't know what else to call that other than a complete and total disaster," another person said.
Other people chose to make light of the situation, tweeting out some pretty comical reactions: "Making two geriatrics argue in front of the entire country at 9pm is diabolical," one person laughed.
"Omg I kinda feel bad like this is elder abuse," another agreed.
"Every time Biden coughs, it feels like it could be THE cough," added a third.
"I say give them both a Roku remote and the first one to start a movie gets to be president," another user said.
"Trump just saying anything and Biden sounding like he died an hour ago...what kind of dream is this?" a final person asked.
