Your morning cup of coffee does more than simply wake you up. You might be surprised to learn that coffee is actually pretty good for you, and it can even aid in weight loss.
On its own, coffee is relatively low in calories, plus the caffeine helps you burn fat. Not only that, but coffee contains antioxidants, riboflavin, magnesium, niacin and potassium. And we’ve learned a new trick to help make coffee even better for you.
Adding cinnamon to your coffee each morning can help increase your metabolism, making it even easier for you to burn calories and rid excess fat. Not to mention that it helps add flavor to your coffee without adding in more calories, sugar or carbs.
Cinnamon is helpful in metabolism because of its anti-inflammatory benefits. Trista Best, a registered dietitian at Balance One Supplements, told SheFinds, “reducing inflammation in the body has an almost direct impact on preventing or reducing obesity and overall body weight. By cutting down on inflammation, your metabolism is better able to burn calories at an efficient rate.”
Studies have even found that cinnamon can help lower weight and get rid of belly fat, even when eaten alongside foods that are higher in fat. It also increases your fiber intake, which is another factor in weight loss.
Even if you’re not a regular coffee drinker, you can still get the metabolic benefits of cinnamon into your diet in other ways. Some of our favorites include making cinnamon overnight oats, or even healthy cinnamon rolls.
