While soups are often regarded as a healthy and comforting meal option, it’s essential to be aware that some soups can be unexpectedly high in sodium, which can have adverse effects on your health, including weight gain. Sodium is a mineral that, when consumed in excess, can lead to water retention, increased blood pressure, and contribute to weight gain over time.
We spoke with Mary Sabat, MS, RDN, LD, to find out the one type of soup we should avoid due to its sodium content and its adverse effects on weight loss. Sabat revealed that canned and processed soups should be limited as much as possible.
