Doja Cat has undeniably taken the music industry by storm with hits such as ‘Say So,’ and ‘Woman,’ and now that she’s dipping her toes into the beauty world we can’t help but ask, is there anything she can’t do?
An avid fan of makeup herself, the singer reveals to us that her new collection with BH Cosmetics, which hit shelves September 25, functions as a peek into the carefully curated world around her while opening the floor to the colorful freedom beauty provides.
The 25-year-old singer began her makeup journey as a teenager which was incidentally the first time she encountered BH Cosmetics. “It was a full circle moment for me as I bought my first rainbow eyeshadow palette from BH Cosmetics when I was 14,” she shares. “I wanted to create something that represented my music and my own personal journey, something that was unique to myself.”
It was this colorful palette that inspired the singer to move into the beauty space, and over her career she’s experimented with a number of bold looks that personify her coveted e-girl style.
Now she can boast a colorful palette of her own, the Mega Palette, which offers a wide array of shades in nearly every hue imaginable. “I’m so proud of all of the products, but I really love the Mega Palette and I’m so excited to see all the looks that people can create with it,” Doja says.
In a pigmented collection of sparkling shadows and creamy matte shades, the palette is not for the faint of heart when it comes to bold and experimental looks. However, the singer still manages to infuse the line with wearable touches of neutral color for beauty fans of all comfort levels.
Apart from the bright palette, the line also offers a selection of lip shades, eyeliners, and highlighter adorned in glistening metallic packaging which Doja reveals was all inspired by her recent move.
“I was heavily influenced by the environment around me after moving into my new home. I wanted the collection to feel like we were in the wild and explored all the different tones and textures of nature,” she says. “I brought in earthy shades of brown and green, intermixed with bright floral tones, to create a color story that is suitable for everyone and allowed for creation of endless looks.”
Never one to take a back seat and let trends come to her, Doja shares that seeking out inspiration on social media has also been integral in developing her unique style. “My beauty influences come from makeup artists on Instagram; I recently unfollowed everybody on my page and only followed makeup, fashion and furniture accounts so that my feed is bursting with creativity,” she says.
Thankfully, due to the versatility of her makeup looks she can act as inspiration to her 15 million Instagram followers, with the new line facilitating their ability to discover their own signature styles.
“The type of makeup style I’m into changes frequently, I am constantly evolving and changing my go-to looks,” she reveals. “I go from wearing gallons of makeup on certain days, especially when I’m performing, to trying to perfect the no-makeup makeup look on my days off.”
