There are very few things that former president Donald Trump can do that would surprise people, yet the public figure has once again found a way to shock people. Trump just announced that he plans to sue several social media platforms after he had been banned from posting.
He publicly said that he will take out a class action lawsuit against Facebook, Twitter and Google – as well as each company’s CEO.
"We're demanding an end to the shadow-banning ... a stop to the banishing, blacklisting and cancelling," Trump said of his lawsuit at a recent press conference.
He also noted that he aims to end “illegal, shameful censorship of the American people” through the lawsuit.
Trump’s lawsuit is in response to having been banned from various social media outlets following the January 6 riots at the Capitol building. The riot saw supporters of the former president storming a federal building as electors counted votes to certify President Biden’s win.
Trump is still banned from posting on Facebook and Twitter, and it doesn’t seem that his ban will be revoked any time soon.
When Twitter first suspended the account, the company announced, "After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”
“We're going to hold Big Tech very accountable," Trump said at his press conference. “This is the first of numerous other lawsuits that I assume would follow."
