Kamala Harris Pulls Ahead of Trump in the Polls
According to FiveThirtyEight, a leading polling analysis site, as of Friday, August 9th, Kamala Harris is ahead of Donald Trump in the polls. The site puts the Democratic nominee above Trump by 2.1 points in its national average.
Looking at the swing states, which will be the deciding factors in this year's election, Harris leads in Michigan by 2 points, Pennsylvania by 1.1 point, and Wisconsin by 1.8 points. In Arizona and Georgia, Trump leads by less than half a point and by a half a point, respectively. Considering she's only joined the race recently, this is a big shift from when Biden was the Democratic nominee. For context, Trump had a 6 point lead in Georgia when Biden was still pursuing reelection.
Trump Launches A Personal Attack Against Kamala Harris
Trump is seemingly having trouble responding to these facts, and has taken to personally attacking Kamala Harris. Looking for a way to disrupt the forward momentum she's been gaining ever since she announced her candidacy, Trump has landed on the fact that she's yet to hold a news conference of her own or to give an unscripted interview to the news media. He argued that she hasn't done either of these things not because she's only been a presidential candidate for less than a month, but because "she's not smart enough."
Trump has also claimed that the move to replace Joe Biden's name on the docket to Kamala Harris is "unconstitutional," but when pressed to answer what section of the Constitution would prohibit this move, he decided he was not actually unconstitutional. Despite these claims, he also noted that he "hasn't recalibrated strategy at all." He might want to think about it if he still wants a chance at winning the election!
