Last Thursday, the Daily Beast reported that Trump was less than pleased with the officers that testified about the Capitol attack, allegedly calling them “p-----s,” and complaining that the officers appear to be, “broke[n]” by the events that took place. Two sources shared with the outlet that the president appeared to see those officers as inferior to their Trump supporting counterparts, with the sources both recounting the same incident separate from each other.
The former president appears to display disdain for the Capitol officers that testified, believing that they “are letting themselves be used as pawns by anti-Trump Democrats.” In particular, the publication calls out Nancy Pelosi as a democrat whom Trump feels targeted by. Allegations of these claims come just days after the hearing for the Capitol riots began, with footage revealing dramatic testimony from four of the officers present on the day, detailing the brutal events of January 6.
The Daily Beast did note, however, that “there have been times when the ex-president has expressed some measure of pity for these men, saying that he feels sorry for them—but mostly because Trump thinks they’re being used or exploited by his political foes, the person with knowledge of the situation said.”
The first hearing concluded last Tuesday with four police officers testifying to paint a clearer picture of the brutal attack on the Capitol building, and District of Columbia police officer Michael Fanone stating, “I feel like I went to hell and back to protect the people in this room,” of the lawmakers they were tasked to protect. Sgt. Aquilino Gonell also testified, “For most people, Jan. 6 happened for a few hours,” he said. “But for those of us who were in the thick of it, it has not ended.” The next hearing remains unscheduled.
