Donald Trump Accused of Election Interference
In August 2023, Donald Trump was indicted on four criminal counts by a grand jury investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot and the 2020 election. While Donald Trump did not participate in the riot, he is being investigated for his part in encouraging the rioters to continue to fight.
Also in August 2023, the state of George presented a 41-count, 98-page indictment against Trump in relation to his involvement in the Capitol riot and his attempts to interfere with the election. While the riot was occurring, Donald Trump did nothing to stop his supporters, and many of his tweets point to his words inciting violence among the attackers.
Donald Trump Says He Had 'Every Right' To Interfere
Over the weekend, Donald Trump appeared on Fox News' Life, Liberty and Levin for an interview, and what he said shocked many viewers. "It's so crazy, that my poll numbers go up," he said. "Whoever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election, where you have every right to do it, you get indicted, and your poll numbers go up. When people get indicted, your poll numbers go down."
Admitting not only that he interfered (or at least attempted to interfere) with the 2020 presidential election, but that he feels he was completely valid in doing so is a shocking revelation from the presidential hopeful. Donald Trump will be facing off against Kamala Harris this November.
In response to Trump's recent interview, the Harris campaign released a statement: "Everything Donald Trump has promised on the campaign trail — from 'terminating' the Constitution, to imprisoning his political opponents and promising to rule as a dictator on 'day one' — makes it clear that he believes he is above the law," her statement read. "Now, Trump is claiming he had 'every right' to interfere in the 2020 election. He did not."
