Donald Trump isn’t just worrying about his own legal problems, as he is reportedly taking it upon himself to help his former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani pay his ever-mounting legal costs following the lawsuits stemming from the 2020 presidential election. The 79-year-old former New York City mayor was indicted in Georgia last month along with the 77-year-old former president and 17 others, for what Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said was a wide-ranging conspiracy to subvert the will of the voters after Trump lost the election to Joe Biden.
Giuliani was arrested on August 23rd, 2023, and a mugshot was released. According to NBC, Giuliani maintained his innocence and said the only thing he was guilty of was advocating for Trump, who was his client at the time. “I am being indicted because I’m a lawyer,” Giuliani reportedly said after he was released on a $150,000 bond.
Donald Trump Hosts $100K-A-Head Fundraiser Dinner
According to reports, the former president hosted a $100K-per-head dinner at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey earlier this month, to raise money for his former lawyer, after Giuliani's own lawyers reportedly confirmed to CNN last month that he was having "financial difficulties."
Giuliani's son Andrew said in an interview on WABC radio that the event, which took place on Thursday, September 7th, was expected to raise more than $1M for the Giuliani Defense PAC, set up by Andrew to help raise funds to cover his father’s legal fees. In addition to this, allies have been chasing donations to the Rudy Giuliani Freedom Fund.
He also went on to say that Trump and his two adult sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump had committed to hosting a second event at Mar-a-Lago later this year. He said that while it will be "very helpful" in helping to cover some of the legal costs, it "won’t be enough to get through this."
Donald Trump Said To Be Planning More Fundraisers At Mar-A-Lago
According to Bloomberg, Trump is planning two separate fundraisers at Mar-a-Lago in October – one for his election campaign, and another to pay the legal costs for all the other people implicated in his four indictments.
The money raised will reportedly be going to the Patriot Legal Defense Fund, a fund created by a group of Trump allies led by longtime Trump adviser Michael Glassner. According to the Daily Beast, the Patriot Legal Defense Fund is technically separate from the Save America PAC set up by Trump in 2020 and Trump’s 2024 campaign, which allows it to sidestep the Federal Election Committee’s campaign finance rules. Interestingly, the pub noted that the fund’s website originally redirected clicks to "Donate Now" to Trump’s campaign website.
