Former president Donald Trump is involved in a lot of lawsuits at the moment—and it’s apparently overfilling his schedule. Trump’s legal counsel requested that one of his lawsuits, pertaining to his mishandling of classified documents, which is scheduled for May 2024, be postponed until after the 2024 presidential election, but last Friday, Judge Aileen Cannon denied this request.

Donald Trump has been indicted for mishandling classified documents at his home in Florida, which could not only result in a prison sentence, but also has many political implications. Donald Trump is running for 2024 presidential candidacy, and there’s no telling how this case and his many others may affect his candidacy. Keep reading for more information.

Judge denies Trump's request to postpone trial

Trump's lawyers argued that the postponing of the trial is necessary due to the large volume of evidence with which they've been presented. There's also the issue of scheduling, as Trump's calendar is full of court dates for the various criminal and civil lawsuits that he is the subject of.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump's campaign, blamed the Biden Administration, saying, "The concerted effort by the Biden Administration to deny President Trump's constitutional rights to prepare for trial reveal their corrupt motives. It is clearly in the best interest of Justice for President Trump to have adequate time to prepare and file motions as he works to defeat these hoaxes and marches back to the White House."

Regardless of these comments, District Judge Aileen Cannon denied the request, calling it "premature." In her written order from Nov. 10th, she said there is an "unusually high volume of classified and unclassified evidence," but didn't think it was reason enough to postpone the trial. Perhaps Trump could hire more lawyers to sift through the paperwork?

Citizen reactions

Many American citizens were outraged that Trump would even ask for a postponement. In a Reddit comment section, one person posted a lengthy response:

"Trump yells that he is being persecuted, when in reality he's being treated with kid gloves. Anyone else, and they would be in jail already. This pathetic ex-President and his lying family all need a dose of reality. Ivanka's privileged silliness about not being able to testify during the kids school week, show their utter total arrogance that can be cured quickly with a few days in the clink!"

Another angry citizen posted, "Call an exterminator to get rid of the pest!"

"Trump will be in court the rest of his life it seems like with all these trials," noted another person.

"The American people deserve to know whether they are voting for convicted felons for President or just regular crooks as per usual practice," another user pointed out. "Delaying until after the elections is unfair to the voters.
