As the entire world is elated for Rihanna and A$AP Rocky‘s pregnancy news, some fans on Twitter began thinking about Drake, the rapper who notably made his love for the singer public numerous times, and was swept up in a relationship that she continuously denied. Although the two have been seen kissing in public, collaborated on romantic songs and seemed to have an undeniable connection and chemistry over the years, their relationship fizzled out in 2016. Rihanna dated several people after their time together and now has fully moved on. While Drake has dated high-profile women in the years that followed, his recent actions following the pregnancy news suggest he may still harbor resentment for the way their relationship ended.

Fans on Twitter, and account @PopTingzz were quick to point out that the day after January 31, (when the Savage X Fenty designer and her boyfriend announced their pregnancy with an iconic photo shoot), Drake unfollowed both Rihanna and A$AP Rocky on Instagram. He has since re-followed the rapper (who follows him back) but as of now he is not following Rihanna anymore, and she isn’t following him either.

Firstly, let’s revisit the complicated timeline of the pair. For years, Drake and Rihanna were one of the mainstream music world’s most popular “will they, won’t they” couples as many fans of both artists hoped the two would finally make their rumored romantic relationship public. We all remember in Drake’s heartfelt 2016 speech presenting Rihanna with the Video Vanguard honor when he said that she was “someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22.” He was 30 at the time.

From steamy live performances of their  joint hits like “Take Care” and “What’s My Name?” to them being spotted with each other countless times (first time being 2008 and last being 2016), their confirmed relationship was long awaited by fans, but on Rihanna’s end, this never came.

Rihanna first insisted that she and Drake were “just friends” (and continued to do so for their entire ordeal), but Drake’s comments about Rihanna always suggested otherwise. He first referred to Rihanna as his “ultimate fantasy” in a February 2014 interview with Rolling Stone and has presented her with stratospheric gestures of his feelings like a billboard congratulating her Vanguard award in 2016.

After Drake’s speech that everyone was talking about, he and Rihanna arrived at a VMA after party and according to sources, looked “very much like a couple and very in love.” Less than two months later, a source told E! News that the two had split over their schedules but were “still in each other’s lives” as close friends. By June 2018, Rihanna told Vogue that she and Drake no longer had a friendship but were “not enemies either.”

Although many Twitter users shared memes of Drake “looking heartbroken” after the pregnancy news and found it comical, others write that they felt “sad” for him ever since the two artists’ long-winded, rollercoaster of a relationship. Regardless, the rapper was spotted having fun with friends at a basketball game in his native Toronto on February 2nd and appeared to be having a good time.

Most fans of the two are are over-the-moon for Rihanna, of course, who is embracing and preparing for motherhood as seen in beautiful photos on her Instagram. As users on Twitter put it, we can all just wish her, A$AP Rocky and Drake all the best as we wait to see the world reveal of what will undeniably be an ultra-stylish and talented baby. Just think of their parents!
