Drew Barrymore, 47, is coming under fire after dubbing Johnny Depp‘s ongoing defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard a “seven-layer dip of insanity” on a recent Drew Barrymore Show episode. The Never Been Kissed actress uploaded a video in which she speaks directly to fans earlier this week and apologizes for her choice of words.

“It has come to my attention that I have offended people with making light of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and for that I just want to deeply apologize,” the Scream icon said to her 15.6 million Instagram followers. Barrymore’s comments appeared insensitive to fans on Twitter who didn’t find it appropriate to “make fun of a case with topics like sexual and domestic violence” as these are “traumatic subjects” that many have shared they relate to.

“I appreciate everyone who spoke out because this can be a teachable moment for me,” Barrymore said, reflecting on the input from fans and how she is learning to “move forward and conduct” herself. “I can be a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person,” the Charlie’s Angels star continued. “I very much appreciate the depth of this and I will grow and change from it and I thank everyone for helping me grow along the way and teaching me, thank you,” she concluded.

Her followers appeared to be grateful for her apology in her comment section, as one wrote, “Good on you for apologizing. Wass very disheartening you’d make light of such a thing, so many of us relate to.” Another added, “Thank you for stepping up and acknowledging what is right. Your self-awareness is admirable.”
