In a recently shared Dove video ad, Drew Barrymore emphasized the significance of positive messaging in encouraging young girls to embrace natural aging and adopt a healthy skincare routine and mindset.

In the video uploaded for her 17.6 million followers, the talk show host, 49, sat in a colorful and vibrantly decorated room while talking directly to the camera. She donned a chic tan plaid blazer, a silky caramel top and earthy brown trousers. Barrymore wore her wavy, dirty blonde tresses down, parted in the center and styled into elegant loose waves.

“Hi everyone, I am Drew and I am here representing Dove and #TheFaceof10 campaign,” the Never Been Kissed actress told her followers. She added: “I grew up in the makeup chair. I spent my whole life in one, but by no means did I ever wear anti-aging skincare.”

The Ever After star then began applying star-shaped and 3D pearl stickers and loose glitter to her face and under her eyebrows. She also shined with the help of her oversized golden hoop earrings and matching rings.

“I know that girls are really obsessed with skincare and I think that’s totally well and good. I think when it comes to anything that is anti-aging, I don’t even know if that’s the exact messaging for adults because you’ll never anti-age,” she added. “If you are lucky, you will actually get to age, but young girls don’t need anything anti-aging.”

Barrymore then asked: “What is it that feels appropriate? Glitter? Stickers? You’re already beautiful. Let’s be playful. Let’s never fear getting older because that is a privilege,” she continued. The mom of two went on: “We have to figure out messaging that empowers women and also lets young girls know that they have so much road ahead of them and they don’t need anti-aging.”

“From one caring, very involved mom, thank you for listening and thank you for your time because this is a very important mission to take care of our young girls,” Barrymore concluded the video, applying one last floral sticker to her face. “I think my whole life might be about that now,” she noted.

In her caption, the Wedding Singer alum reiterated her message and opened up about her own childhood as a young actress. “When I was younger, I used to really express myself! I loved glitter and I loved stickers. I kind of thought you could never wear enough glitter. I still kind of feel that way,” Barrymore wrote.

The Emmy nominee went on: “Today, young girls are being exposed to adult targeted anti-aging skincare content which is making them want to use anti-aging products! @dove research shows 1 in 4 feel judged about how their skin looks.”

The Flower Beauty founder stressed: “If we create powerful and positive messaging, we get to be as playful as we want and as empowered as we want.” She added: “I’m partnering with Dove to raise awareness about this unnecessary beauty trend and help protect the self-esteem of young girls.”

The comments section of her post was filled with numerous fans who showed their affection towards Barrymore’s inspiring message targeted at young girls. “Absolutely love this message and the bonus of seeing you back in glitter and stars!” one wrote as another added: “age gracefully, enjoy the wrinkles. Glitter it up.” Someone else concurred, replying: “Yes to this message, yes to aging is a privilege, yes to play and YES TO GLITTER!!!”

Dove’s fresh international campaign dubbed ‘#TheFaceof10’ aims to combat the detrimental impact of adult skincare materials on young girls. According to Barrymore and the brand, the campaign highlights how this exposure subjects young girls to societal pressure to undertake anti-aging skincare routines prematurely, before they have had a chance to grow up.

#TheFaceof10 is bringing together a diverse group of influential TikTok voices, such as academic experts, dermatologists, creators, and body confidence advocates, in addition to Barrymore. Their collective aim is to increase awareness about the issue through the creation of engaging and creative content.
