During a recent episode of her eponymous talk show, Drew Barrymore shared a rare comment about the plastic surgery procedure she had at 17 in 1992.

Last week, the 50-year-old Drew Barrymore Show host brought up her breast reduction surgery from the 90s while discussing breast cancer awareness.

Joining her were board-certified OB-GYN Dr. Kameelah Phillips, lifestyle expert Valerie Bertinelli, and Inside Edition host Alison Hall, who revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in 2024.

After X-Men star Olivia Munn opened up about her breast cancer experience, the producers of Inside Edition sent Hall, 33, to a specialist in New York City.

There, she discovered through a test that she was at high risk, as she later shared with Barrymore and the other women on the show. Hall said she found out she had breast cancer by getting yearly mammograms and MRIs.

Despite catching it early, the journalist opted for a double mastectomy with reconstruction. Her experience and the emphasis on preventative care, such as regular mammograms, led the Charlie's Angels actress to discuss her surgery.

Barrymore asked, "What if someone's had a reduction, like me?" The 50 First Dates alum continued, "What if someone has had implants or enhancements like a lot of people out there?"

The mom of two (who shares daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with her ex Will Kopelman) also inquired, "How does any alteration of our bodies also play into the examination process?"

Dr. Phillips then said that this is where "imaging is really important," and explained that mammograms that are "not satisfactory" will encourage doctors to recommend an "ultrasound" to their patients.

The doctor also shared in an Instagram Story post, "Breast cancer can happen at any age. Don't ignore your symptoms, take for granted your family history, or live in fear."

Barrymore seldom discussed her breast reduction surgery at age 17, but in 1998, she shared her reasons for the procedure with the New York Daily News, five years after it took place.

At the time, she told the outlet, "I really love my body and the way it is right now." The Ever After star went on, "There's something very awkward about women and their breasts because men look at them so much."

"When they're huge, you become very self-conscious. Your back hurts. You find that whatever you wear, you look heavy in. It's uncomfortable."

Despite undergoing breast reduction surgery 33 years ago, the Flower Beauty founder has been outspoken about avoiding plastic surgery due to concerns about potential addiction.

"I haven't done anything, and I'm going to maintain that as long as possible," the E.T. actress revealed. She added, "I have a highly addictive personality, so I worry I'd continue to chase it, get this and that done. That scares me, just because of my own approach to things. So, I'm waiting on making any alterations."
