The One Thing You Should Drink If You Have Acid Reflux

May 30, 2017 by Jennifer Hussein

If you constantly have heartburn, chances are you're suffering from acid reflux disease. This uncomfortable feeling occurs because your lower esophageal sphincter, which is the entrance muscle to your stomach, is either constantly opening or never closes entirely. This causes stomach acid to rise into your esophagus, creating that painful burning feeling in your chest and throat. But, the good news is that you don't need to go through this forever!

One of the major causes of acid reflux is what you put in your body, so be careful! Most carbonated beverages, like soda and seltzer water, are notorious for their acid reflux-inducing effects, so stay away from those. Instead, choose drinks that promote stomach health to kick that constant heartburn to the curb.

So, your drink options may seem limited when dealing with acid reflux. But, there are still many drinks for you to choose from that will actually help soothe your tummy!

Ginger tea is a great drink to have if you suffer from acid reflux! Ginger is known to be a natural treatment for stomach problems, and helps soothe a troubled tummy in no time. It lso helps lower the production of stomach acid, which is also a major cause of acid reflux.

Ginger tea is much more helpful than ginger ale mainly due to the fact that ginger ale is carbonated, which will only cause more stomach trouble for you. Many ginger ales also contain caffeine, which is also very harsh on your gut and should be avoided as much as possible. Stick to ginger tea for the best results, and use lemon and honey as sweeteners for a triple dose of stomach-soothing powers!
