Your favorite serums and moisturizers might promote beautiful skin, but diet plays an equally important role in boosting a younger-looking complexion.
As well as fueling your body with foods that fight inflammation, you can drink your way to a natural glow with drinks that are good for your skin. (And no-we’re not just talking about water!) In fact, there are plenty of beverages out there containing enough collagen and antioxidants to leave your skin as baby soft and youthful as if you just slathered it in the dermatologist-loved Vichy Quenching Mineral Face Mask.
So while you’re maintaining your topical skin treatments, upgrade your wellness routine with a drink that’s known for its skin-protective properties. Pass the green tea, please!
Green Tea
Not only is green tea delicious, but it delivers a bevy of skin benefits. "Green tea is packed with antioxidants, which have widespread health benefits-ranging from preventing illness and reducing inflammation to boosting skin health," explains registered dietician Trista Best.
"We take in these antioxidants through plant compounds, phytonutrients and amino acids in the food we eat and the herbal teas we drink, like green tea."
She continues, "These antioxidants work in the body to prevent and reduce cellular damage from toxins and free radicals. This damage, if not slowed or stopped, causes a host of negative health consequences."
One of these consequences includes poor skin health. "Free radical damage can lead to wrinkles, dry patches, uneven skin tone and acne," Trista adds.
If you want to take anti-aging to the next level, you can also try applying green tea products topically. With its reputation for being a superfood that's chock-a-block with antioxidants, green tea is fast becoming a shining star in the skincare world. You can find the ingredient added to everything from trendy face masks to moisturizers and toners.
Apply a product with green tea either in the morning (for protection against the free radicals the day has in store), or at night, when the skin is known to repair itself. But whether you choose to drink green tea or slather it on your face, your skin will thank you.
Green tea isn't guaranteed to fight off aging-but at the very least, it helps promote hydration and leaves your skin looking its best for longer. Who wouldn't want that?
